Research is the process of systematic collection of information to test hypotheses and make inferences, using the scientific method. Monitoring is a kind of ecological research focused on inferring change over time. Many Lessons can be learned through less formal methods. Research is an integral part of Adaptive Management which uses research to investigate uncertainty during a course of action. Not all knowledge is accessed thorugh research and more integrated and embodied processes like the Arts and Crafts offer alternate mechanisms for knowledge creation.
