Advocacy

From Salish Sea Wiki

Advocacy is a king of Social Change effort that uses information and arguement to try to influence the decisions of others. It differs from Education or Coordination or Planning or Integrated Ecosystem Management which are more focused on empowerment of participants. Funding aims to impel with money rather than ideas. Legislation is a common target of advocacy. Often Governments are restricted in their advocacy, and are instructed to operate based only on Legislation. Private entities and particularly NGOs often focus on advocacy, and thus advocacy interactions among Governments and Private parties are assured. Advocacy has ambiguous edges, as most institutions advocate for their interests, and advocacy can be easily framed as Education.
