Protection Efforts aim to change private behavior to avoid, minimize or mitigate damage to ecosystem from human activity. Acquisition does so through purchasing property rights. Regulation uses the police powers of government to restrict the actions of citizens. Protection actions are different than Social Change efforts which lack the force of law, however protection depends on Knowledge Creation, Legal frameworks and Planning to be implemented well. Green Infrastructure is a form of protection that aims to integrate ecological functions into human Infrastructures that have historically degraded ecosystems.
