South Spencer Island in the Snohomish Estuary. The south side of the island was breached in 1994, and was the subject of long term monitoring and a peer-reviewed publications. The north portion of the island was managed for waterfowl habitat, until a persistent fire prompted WDFW to breach the dikes and flood the site. Increasing the number of breaches to increase connectivity is the objective of a project proposed under the PSNERP general investigation, and was recommended for completion under the USACE Continuing Authorities Program.
Monitoring
