Category Update and Page Editing Forms

In 2024 the Platform has been completing an update of Categories, organizing them into clear hierarchies, associating categories with structured page data using the Cargo Extension, and developing a workflow for adding and organizing new categories over time. This update primarily serves the goal of creating a more intuitive check-box-based approach to categorization during page edits using the PageForms extension.

Objectives

In designing data structure and forms we have the following objectives:

Easy to add a new sub-category that can be immediately and simultaneously propagated in both the Category framework, and as a Cargo Attribute, which then appears in stable page editing PageForms.
This same category schema and its pages can be invoked using either Cargo Queries, Dynamic Page List, or Category Tree extensions to show lists of categories and associated pages.
A category name can be changed, or the parentage of a category altered, and those changes are easily propagated among all pages and frameworks, likely using a specific sequence of ReplaceText queries.
Upon changes to categories, Cargo Queries, Dynamic Page Lists, and Category trees display correct categories and page counts (we are having some perennial problems in the Special:CategoryTree and Special:Categories queries.

Page Forms Test

We are developing a form that will be used to edit all Product Pages as a test case. Deployment of this system will requires the development of a set of wiki pages which depend on both the PageForm and [https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Cargo Cargo) extensions.
