Most restoration sites are likely to lack an irrigation source. On dry sites, first-year restoration planting mortality can be very high, and the use of irrigation allows for the installation of smaller and more cost-effective stock. State code has provisions for the issuance of temporary water rights to support environmental enhancement.

  • WAC 173-152-050 describes criteria by which applications may be prioritized by staff.
    • Provision 173.152.050(2)c supports projects that is "is nonconsumptive and if approved would substantially enhance or protect the quality of the natural environment ... and (f) Proposes temporary water use for an identified period such as: (ii) a private project directly related to ... environmental enhancement."
