The City of Stanwood is a town of 6,200 people with a train station on the BNSF line. It used to have several food processing facilities, and is the market town for the Stillaguamish Delta and Lower Stillaguamish Floodplain. A portion of the city is build below sea level on historical salt marsh. The city is at risk of flooding from sea over dikes and from the Skagit and Stillaguamish Rivers.
