Founded in 1871 by Charles Manning. The seed extractory is in Roy, Washington. The company created the concept of seed zones in 1949. The Gerdes family purchsed Manning Seed Company in 1966 and changed the name to Silvaseed. They were pioneers in helicopter based direct seeding after wildfire. The company was solde to DroneSeed (now Mast Reforestation) in 2021.
Notes
- Produces a large volume of seedlings focused on conifers for forestry.
- Because of their scale they may serve as a good partner for Assisted Migration of Vegetation
- Mast Reforestation operates out of Seattle, and is working in carbon credit sales through reforestation of catastrophic wildfire landscapes.
