The City of Port Angeles is the largest population center on the North Olympia Peninsula, with over twice the population of the adjacent City of Sequim. It is built around a large deepwater port Port Angeles Harbor. protected by Ediz Hook, one of two massive sand spits created tall eroding bluffs and Pacific Ocean swells pushing down the Strait of Juan de Fuca.

Like most urban growth areas, natural resource governance is divided into three executive departments:

Community and Economic Development

CED includes both "long range planning" under GMA and SMA which includes Critical Areas and Shoreline Designations as well as permitting for project proposals.

Public Works and Utilities

Public works is responsible for stormwater as an extension of the transportation network, and may manage rights-of-way available for ecological functions.

Parks and Recreation

Parks and Recreation manages city-owned properties (perhaps not all?)
