Since its inception in 1999, the Snohomish MRC has received staff support from Snohomish County Surface Water Management Department. The MRC’s 13 members represent a balance of scientists, local and tribal governments' staff and recreational, economic, and environmental interests. The mission of the MRC is to “address local marine issues, recommend remedial actions to local authorities and build local awareness of issues and support for remedies.”
The MRC works on a wide variety of projects with measurable results, including:
- Port Susan Marine Stewardship Area
- NOAA Mussel Watch Water Quality Sampling
- Nearshore Restoration Project
- Derelict Gear Removal
- Kayak Point County Park Restoration Project
- Recreational Crabber Education
- WSU Snohomish County Extension Beach Watchers Program Support
