Picea Sitchensis is the only species of Picea in the lowlands, with Picea englemanii in the mountains. This was a core technological species, in particular for its strong root fibers and its sap.
Notes[edit]
- It tolerates salt spray on the Washington Coast.
- Once predominant tree in freshwater tidal swamp as observable at Otter Island.
- Frequently planted in Restoration efforts because it is unpalatable to Ungulates
Questions[edit]
- It seems to be restricted to coastal areas, so what is the mechanisms that limits its distribution and how might this be affected by climate change?
