Irrigation is uncommon in the Salish Sea however some sites have high mortality due to well-drained soils, low precipitation and/or high depths to groundwater.
- Katrina Strathmann at Mid-Columbia Fisheries Enhancement Group provided an overview of irrigation practices in the Columbia Basin at the 2025 North Sound Riparian Conference
- Drip provides deep irrigation without heavy weed growth with low labor cost. Tank and hose irrigation is not effective.
- 5 gallons every 1-2 weeks
- 1-2 staff would be on site during irrigation to verify system function. There has been rodent damage
- On the eastside livestakes only work when planted into groundwater.
