Oregon ash is our only member of the genus Fraxinus (with Mountain Ash from very different genetics and in the genus Sorbus). It is a large wetland tree, able to grow under spring inundation. It has recently been infected by the emerald ash borer, which has devastated Fraxinus populations on the East Coast.
Notes
We could collect more information about this lovely species, but this initial note is based on the discovery of the borer.
- It is fast growing on floodplains, re-sprouts well as a coppice.
