Oncorhynchus clarkii is a native fish of the Salish Sea with the coastal sub-species distinct from westslope subspecies found east of the Cascades. Some populations in the Salish Sea, Outer Coast and Columbia Basin are anadromous, and travel to salt water to forage.

- Losee et al 2017 study migration patterns in South Puget Sound
- Complex migration patterns make protection of individual stocks during sea-run phase difficult.
- The Little Skookum Creek population was broadly distributed, while the McLane Creek and Kennedy Creek populations were predominantly found within their natal inlets.
