Action Areas

From Salish Sea Wiki

Action Areas are geographic regions in Puget Sound, that were initially developed by the Puget Sound Partnership. They roughly followed PSNERP oceanographic sub-basins, but with greater respect for the political boundaries of counties. The Action Areas were part of the structure created to support development of the PSP Action Agenda, as supported in substantial part by the EPA National Estuary Program. Over time, the Action Agenda structure has gone through interations, and shifted some focus to "Strategic Initiatives" (Habitat, Shellfish, and Stormwater) and planning functions have been adopted by Lead Integrating Organizations. The boundaries of LIO are different than original action areas, based on the patterns of local politics, and so "Action Areas" have fallen out of use, although is may still be used synonymous with LIO areas.
