Reiner Farm/Dogwood Swale

From Salish Sea Wiki

This area is a old river channel on Reiner Farm now silted in. Portions of the swale were planted with cedar and spruce during the underplaning in the early 2000s.

Stewardship Notes[edit]

  • The November 2024 flood resulted in this site backwatering with deposition of sediment.
  • The low spot is approximately 150 feet upstream of the mouth, and has no standing water most of the year, but has slough sedge.
  • We started limbing up spruce on the sunny side of the swale to allow shrubs to migrate into the stand. We imagine dogwood, salmonberry, and perhaps moisture loving forbs. (nettle).
  • We cleared blackberry and planted dogwood in upstream portions of the swale where it crosses the pond trail.
