Pess, G.R., M.C. Liermann, M.L. McHenry, R.J. Peters, and T.R. Bennett. 2011. Juvenile salmon response to the placement of engineered log jams (ELJs) in the Elwha River, Washington State, USA. River Research and Applications, Volume 28, Issue 7, pages 872–881.

Few studies systematically observe how juvenile salmon use Engineered log jams. This study provides control-treatment study of coho, chinook salmon and steelhead and rainbow trout density, and shows that higher salmonid density was observed in association with ELJ structures.
