Regional Scale
From Salish Sea Wiki
To organize various pages at the largest scale we divide the Salish Sea and Surrounding Lands into regions. This "region scale" includes Places covering hundreds of square miles, encompassing many Catchments and a diversity of Landforms. These regions include the oceanic sub-basins of the Salish Sea, as well as geographic places referenced in studies and natural histories.
- Whidbey Basin
- Hood Canal
- West Sound
- San Juan Islands
- Strait of Juan de Fuca
- Chehalis River Basin
- South Puget Sound
- East Sound
- Admiralty Inlet
- South Vancouver Island
- Gulf Islands
- Sunshine Coast
Sometimes regions overlap, and our regions vary based on the central features of place, which may be aquatic or terrestrial (consider the Kitsap Peninsula as compared to Hood Canal or Whidbey Island compared to Whidbey Basin. As with all places, regions may be imprecise, and the edges are not fixed, except in the minds of specific authors.
