Prairies and Oak woodlands are a uncommon ecosystem type that occurs on dry gravelly post-glacial soils. There are are suite of species unique to Prairies several of which are listed as threatened under the Endangered Species Act or are species of concern under state law. They have historical been maintained by tribal communities by burning and cultivation. They are an anthropogenic ecosystem, that provides diverse resources for historical tribal communities.
