Carbon credit trading depends on methods for measuring and then estimating carbon quantity and change over time in a variety of ecological systems that may be used for carbon sequestration. The development of carbon credit markets may provide the incentive and operating resources to support alternatives to management that result in the maximum extraction of economic products, and instead balanced management for diverse ecological services.
