Fuller, Roger N. 2015. 2015 Extreme Summer Salinity in the Stillaguamish Estuary. Monitoring memo prepared for The Nature Conservancy.

Notes[edit]

  • Due to a lack of snow pack, river levels were extremely low for several months during the spring and summer of 2015, resulting in a tripling of pore water salinity in tidal wetlands.
  • River flow conditions were similar to those projected to be average sometime after 2050.
  • Between 2014 (normal flows) and 2015 (extreme low flows), the height of marsh vegetation in tidal wetlands below MHHW declined by 34-43%, suggesting a substantial change in biomass production.
